Our Core Values

Our Core Values BSLC supports people to become active contributors to their community by living out these values:

  • Literacies – we believe that literacy in all its forms is a lifelong activity essential to the continuing growth and development of both individuals and the communities in which they live.
  • Empowerment – we believe literacy enables individuals to develop knowledge, skills/competencies, and self-esteem so as to achieve their full potential.
  •  Advocacy – we believe the Council is charged with speaking out and working for a broad array of literacy programs & services for all people.
  • Diversity – we believe that all individuals are entitled to diverse opportunities to meet their respective literacy needs.
  • Community – we believe in the power of collaboration to mobilize existing community resources and to create new ones to assess community needs, pinpoint barriers, form partnerships & craft solutions to provide a spectrum of literacy services.
